My friend Naddia just shared her Coquito Recipe! I’m thrilled to share her family’s authentic Puerto Rican rum punch with you today.

What is Coquito?

Coquito meaning “Little Coconut” in Spanish is a traditional Christmas drink that originated in Puerto Rico.

This coconut and rum co*cktail is often called called Puerto Rican eggnog because it’s similar to eggnog, but without the eggs.

Coquito is a tradition in Puerto Rico and Naddia and her family start making it around Thanksgiving to enjoy throughout the holidays. She makes it every year for friends and clients during the holidays and they LOVE it. I can’t believe I had never heard of this amazing co*cktail before now!

I’m happy to add this Puerto Rican tradition to my list of amazing drinks here on the blog. Thanks for the recipe Naddia! I won’t wait for the holidays and will be making it all year round. ha!

What alcohol is used in Coquito?

I’ve seen several recipes that call for various types of rum, but this recipe only uses white rum.

My friend says Don Q is the only brand ofrum the Puerto Ricanlocals usefor this dessert co*cktail.

What kind of Coconut Cream Should You Use?

Coco Lopez is the brand of choice in Puerto Rico, so we’ll be using that for our recipe.

How do you serve Coquito?

The recipe I’m sharing today makes a large batch. It’s the perfect rum punch to serve at parties.

Make your recipe ahead and chill, then pour into a large punch bowl before guests arrive.

Other ways to serve this co*cktail:

  • Poured straight into glasses as a dessert co*cktail is the simplest way to serve Coquito.
  • Get creative and add a mix of cinnamon sugar to the rim of your glasses before serving.
  • I love it in my coffee! Coquito and coffee is the most delicious dessert co*cktail.
  • Garnish your glass with ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks.

How long will Coquito last?

Well, if you don’t drink it right away, store your batch of Coquito in an air-tight container and chill. It will be good for up to 6 months.

After a while, the coconut with solidify. Before serving you’ll want to sit out of the refrigerator for at least 5-10 minutes, then shake well to make smooth again.

How to make Coquito, a delicious coconut and rum punch originated in Puerto Rico. This authentic Puerto Rican drink is the best dessert co*cktail.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups White Rum Don Q Puerto Rican Rum
  • 2 – 14 oz cans sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 – 12 oz cans evaporated milk
  • ½ can coconut milk 13.5 oz can – unsweetened
  • 1 – 15 oz can coconut cream Coco Lopez
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients into a blender. Mix until smooth.

  • Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

  • Garnish glasses with ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks.

Notes

This amount will fill two empty wine bottles or two pint sized mason jars if you want to give as gifts.

Omit the rum for mocktails or split the mixture in half before adding rum. Save one half for a non-alcohol version. Add one cup of rum to the other half for the traditional co*cktail version.
