Poached eggs in the Thermomix are just so easy and yummy. I have adjusted this recipe from the new Every Day Cookbook (EDC) – it is not in the old EDC.

So those with the old EDC and don’t know how to do them, this is my tweaked version.

Hmm, maybe I didn't have the water quite boiling. First lot looked like they just sat on the bottom of the basket. The second lot only had the yolks left, all the egg whites leached through the simmering basket.

New tm5 owner. Still trying to work it all out.

Where I am confused is do I put the eggs in the steamer basket from the shell or do I have to put them in a container (say a silicon egg poacher container)?

When I do them free hand I put them straight into the water

Hi Cathy, I crack them into individual small dishes (just avoids getting shell in the TM bowl) and then I tip each egg into the TM bowl in the simmering basket. I hope this makes it clearer for you. :)

I love how quick and easy this is to make but I tried 3 eggs at a time and found that they clumped together and one of the yolks actually broke (my guess is when I poured one egg in after another it fell on top and broke...) Is there a way to avoid this?? Thanks :)

    • thermofun says

Sorry Sophie not really that I'm aware of. The secret is to try and tip them in very carefully - whilst crossing your fingers and toes!! lol! Give it another try. :)

This recipe is fantastic, I've tried the ones with putting the egg in with the shell on & you loose most of the egg white, this recipe works a dream, I'm doing breakfast for 8 tomorrow, how many eggs could I do at a time?

    Reply

    • thermofun says

Diane to be honest I've only ever done 4 at a time. Let me know if you do try more and how they go.

Thanks, I only did 4 at a time, with the muffins cooking it all worked well, I don't think you could go beyond 4, it would get very messy, I did find for some reason the more eggs the quicker they cooked. Loved the recipe it is a winner

Tried these after reading the instructions and then going from memory. First 2 eggs - speed too high (sp4) so adjusted that. Husband was cooking the bacon and toast so didn't have time to come back to the laptop.
Next 2 eggs: down to sp 2 but both times had forgotten the vinegar and only had it on 90C not Varoma. The yolks were still perfect but we lost a lot of the white.
So I will try again but it looks very promising. And we enjoyed tonight's dinner.

What time would you need to cook 4 eggs?

    • thermofun says

I've never done four at one time Robyn. I would say the same amount of time though.

Hi, won't the egg yolks break if you pour the eggs into the basket from the hole in the lid or did I read this wrong? Tx

    Reply

    • thermofun says

Nikki - you have read it correctly! I too was sceptical - but so far I haven't had a yolk break yet! :)
